On Vegetarianism vs. Big Bad Meat, and the mistake we made in ditching traditional foods. This is a terrific article by Gremolata’s Loretta .. is an important read.. Accumulating evidence that we have it all wrong when it comes to recent thinking about eating meat and animal fats, the healthiness of a vegetarian diet, and the ‘new’ industrial food that has replaced traditional foods… The more I read, live and trust common sense, the more it becomes obvious that we shoud have listened to our grandmothers all along, as Michael Pollan so poignantly pointed out in his Defense of Food. The bottom line, eating meat and fat is fine, even best, when the meat is naturally raised, as a part of a balanced diet big on real food and scarce on industrial refined sugars, starches and vegetable fats. http://www.gremolata.com/Articles/386-Im-A-Natural-Born-Killer.aspx

Cuisine du Quebec website is finally up and running with an impressive amount of content.. With the focus on Quebec, its products, artisans, chefs, a wide variety of recipes and food news, this comprehensive site fills a much needed gap on the Canadian culinary web. What is most refreshing is that it is information driven, not commercial.. http://www.cuisineduquebec.com/

Howdy!

Umm, I would beg to differ with your opinion on the Cuisine du Quebec website. I don't know what you would call it instead of commercial, but they (and myself) call the large banner for Fouvrac on the bottom an advertisement, same for the Marche de Noel de Val David banner, both of which would lead me to believe it is in fact a for profit website.

And while I didn't do a comprehensive search through the site, they have the wrong address and wrong phone number for Tortilleria Maya, call Biéropholie a Microbrasserie instead of an importer, and consider both Schwartz's and Rôtisserie Romados artistic Quebecois food makers (but somehow forget to include all the other Portuguese Grilled Chicken Restaurants and all the other Smoked Meat restaurants).

I know that it isn't commercial at heart, in that the content is not driven by advertising; the mission being information in a comprehensive site about Quebec Cuisine, which is no easy task. There is nothing like it on the landscape, the site is new, there isn't a huge team and big money behind this site; it's mainly one woman's vision, so it will never be perfect, but give it a chance.. Obviously, it is quite the undertaking, and of course they will need some advertising or revenue to make it happen as well as time and input from all over. By the way, food industry people, chefs, artisans, restauranteurs, were repeatedly encouraged to participate and pass the info along to others in the food industry, who could then enter their own proper info or recipes (with no fee unlike many other similar mags and sites). Why don't you point out any mistakes or omissions you see to help them make it better? I'm sure restaurants you know that want to be listed can apply.
